MTN Football Scholar debuts

MTN Football Scholar, a youth program aimed at discovering talents who can combine active football and education at the tertiary level within a scholarship scheme, has debuted in Nigeria.
It's the first of its kind in Nigeria.
The unique programme is a platform for the discovery, training and exposure of budding soccer talents.
MTN Football Scholar's key components of training and exposure scheme will involve access to scholarship opportunities to soccer oriented universities in the United States and linkages with other international soccer academies.
The programme is designed to connect Nigerian youths with their positive aspirations for international exposure-Soccer and Education.
REQUIREMENTS
It is open to students within the age bracket of 16 and 20years. Interested contestants would be required to send sms to 4000 at N50, stating their name, age and location. Interested contestants must also have fulfilled the requirements below;
Must have scored at least a C6 in WASSCE in the following subjects:
Mathematics
English
1 Natural/Physical Science Subject (such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
1 Social Science Subject (such as history, government, economics, geography, etc)
1 additional course (could be an additional course from any of the above categories)
Contestants must come to the audition venues with the following documents;

Proof of age-Birth certificate or Age declarations
Photocopy of credentials
ID card, international passport or drivers license for identification
1 passport photograph
MECHANICS OF THE PROGRAM
The programme would kick-off with auditions in 8 key cities with a knock out series which would set-up quarter final clashes. Participants who get to this stage of the competition do a mock exam and successful candidates proceed to the Academy for 3 weeks where students get intensive football and academic training for a period of one month.
The month long training prepares students for the SAT and TOEFL examinations. Those who succeed in crossing this stage would play a final football competition under the watchful eyes of international soccer scouts to select top winners. Runners-up will have the opportunity of a week's exposure to other international soccer academies-again to create platforms for scouts to fish out these raw and great talents.

Simultaneous auditions will hold simultaneously as follows.
16th - 18th of Sept. 2011;
Akure - Ondo State (Police College Football Field)
Ado-Ekiti - Ekiti State (Kayode Oluyemi Stadium, Ado)
20th - 22nd of Sept. 2011;
Warri - Delta State (Police Field, Ekpan)
Benin - Edo State (S & T Military Barracks Football Field, Ugbowo)
24th - 26th of Sept. 2011
Osogbo - Osun State (Osogbo Township Stadium)
Ibadan - Oyo State (Obafemi Awolowo Stadium)
30th Sept - 2nd Oct 2011;
Abeokuta - Ogun State (MKO Stadium / Abeokuta Grammar School Field)
Lagos - Lagos State (National Stadium Surulere)
